There is an old saying that if you eat, you are involved in agriculture. The same could be said about health care. If you are alive, you are involved in health care. With evolving health care changes on our horizon, now, more than ever, is the time for you to join us at our 2012 Healthcare Symposium, “Regression or Progression: Your Choice”, on November 8 at the Norris Conference Center.
The Houston CPA Society HealthCare Committee is pleased to announce that for our ninth annual symposium, we have added a fourth co-sponsoring organization: the American College of Healthcare Executives – SouthEastTexasChapter (ACHE-SETC). Gulf Coast Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), and the Texas Gulf Coast Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), continue to share hosting duties for our 2012 event. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 7:15 AM, with a 7:45 AM conference kick-off.
The Norris Conference, located at Houston CityCentre at I-10 and Beltway 8, offers well-located, complimentary parking. Nearby hotels are also convenient if you are traveling a great distance or have continuing business in the Houston Energy Corridor.
This full-day meeting will be attended by practice administrators, managers, financial officers, healthcare executives, and accountants who will hear about the 2012 regulatory changes in health care both on the federal and state level, what is happening in the managed care arena for insured and uninsured patients and how local entities are addressing accountable care organizations, revenue cycle management, and hospital integration.
On everyone’s mind in 2012 is what is going to happen with the Affordable Health Care Act. What changes must I make with my business? What plans must I make for the future? To bring some sanity to this topic, you must not miss “Washington Update on the Elections and Health Care Reform”. This panel includes the top lobbyists from our co-sponsoring organizations and the Texas Hospital Association. TSCPA is represented by AICPA Health Care Expert Panelist Nicole Blythe from Grant Thornton, Dallas.
There are always new “hot topics” in our industry and everyone must be equipped for the changes. Several topics will incorporate the ever-popular panel discussion to cover different viewpoints and procedural plans:
- Local executives (Memorial Hermann and Kelsey Seybold) and attorney Ivan Wood to discuss “ACO – An Operational Perspective”.
- ACHE-SETC is preparing a panel with representatives from Methodist, UTMB, Memorial Hermann, and the Harris County Hospital District to speak on “Houston Health and Waiver 1115”.
- “Texas Insurance Plans for 2014” will be discussed by representatives from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, United Healthcare, and Universal American
- A special luncheon presentation by the Chronicle’s Jack Sweeney titled “Nosy Newspaper Men.”
Roberta Schwartz; Executive Vice President of Operations at Methodist will address “Hospital System Integration” before Austin attorney Scott Nichols discusses “Revenue Cycle – the New Legal Environment” to close out the conference.
